Dear Newcomer,
Welcome to Dover AFB. The Dover Officers’ Spouses’ Club (DOSC) was founded as a support group for military officers’ wives, and we continue in this tradition for all spouses today. The club is a group of phenomenal individuals who share each other’s interests and common threads of the nomadic military life. Moving to a new base is hard but getting involved with the Officers’ Spouses’ Club can make this adjustment a much more positive one.
The Dover OSC is an exciting club to participate in. We host monthly socials on the 2nd Thursday of the month. We have many fun-filled socials planned this year where you can make new friends and socialize. This year we will have the traditional Bunco and Bingo lunches, but we will also be hosting a Chili Cook-off, Mardi gras lunch, Derby Days and a Minute to Win it Competition. We have two evening functions, a Murder Mystery Dinner and a Poker Event, where you may bring your spouse. There are also many Special Activity clubs that meet once a month. These include golf, bowling, Book club, Wine and Cheese night, What’s for Lunch group, stamping, scrap booking, Bunko and Fitness Club, just to name a few. These are offered throughout the year, and you can join in at any time.
Another main focus of the club is raising money for charitable donations & scholarships. We give money to various organizations nationally, locally and on base that enrich the lives of many people. Last year we awarded 21 scholarships totaling $28,000 and we granted over $9000 in welfare requests. This is made possible by the Annual DOSC Craft Show that we host every year. The club sponsors the event, solicits vendors and runs the event on show day. The next Craft Show will be held on November 5, 2011 at the Delaware State Fairgrounds in Harrington. This event earned the club over $30,000 last year. We are always looking for volunteers, so if you would like to get involved, please contact me.
